On the Slopes, during Covid

Winter has arrived, Covid is still here.  You CAN have a great ski vacation this season – but there are definitely some moguls and icy patches to navigate when making your plans.  The most important change is that every resort is requiring advance purchase of lift tickets to limit the number of guests each day – don’t plan on buying your lift ticket at the window.  So, before buying your flights – or making a hotel reservation – be sure that you can purchase a lift ticket for the day you want to ski!

What else to expect from your ski vacation?  Stew & Zach are just back from Sun Valley, Idaho – shed some light on the day-to-day of their recent ski trip.

Stew:  Skiers and snowboarders are usually face-covered to protect from the cold, but it was great to see the signage and consistent reinforcement from the resort staff.

Zach:  Greeters would remind guests to cover both nose and mouth.  Most of the resort guests always wore a mask, and the others just needed a friendly reminder to mask-up.

Stew:  On the few occasions that we’d slide into the lift line uncovered, the Lifties would remind us to mask-up with a quick hand signal or shout out.  Gondolas and lift chairs were loaded with only groups skiing and riding together – even allowing single passengers in an 8-person gondola.

Zach:  At the lodges, employees would remind everyone to wear a mask on the way in.  Tables were spread out so that seating capacity was about 50%.

Stew:  So, while traveling is a bit more of a nuisance that usual – especially wearing a mask all day – it was really enjoyable overall.  Zach:  We felt very safe while visiting Sun Valley.
